PLEASE NOTE -
This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that
the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY. Although perfectly suitable for inclusion
in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made
- facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage
and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor,
it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument.
If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will
appreciate this piece.
If you are new to the art, why not have a look at my straight razor primer on this
site? Just click here to go to the relevant page.
If you have any questions about this piece please email us, thanks.
Don’t forget our honing service - our new website with all our service rates included,
making it easy for you to use - now also includes our re-pinning repair service for
straight razors!
Sorry, this one isn’t for sale but we will be offering a custom service for re-scaling
very soon. Materials will include buffalo horn, bone and various exotic hardwoods
- maybe even carbon fibre! - so if you have a favourite piece that you think deserves
this treatment, drop us a line - include photos if you wish - and we’ll take it from
there. Each set of scales is made individually for the razor concerned so it takes
a little while but we’re sure you will think it’s worth it.
Anyway - the razor below arrived with me as part of a ‘job lot’ in a very sorry state
- covered in old grease and dirt with no scales. Looks a bit different now! It’s
a Frederick Fenney ‘Tally-Ho!’ Blade C. 1840, some 8/8 at the widest point and a
very solid 5/16” thick at the spine, giving an all-ip weight of some 98 g./3.5 oz.
The blade is full-wedge and with a pronounced full sweep. Scales are buffalo horn,
brass-pinned with a lignum vitae scale spacer. Hope you like it!
