Bespoke hand-made custom strops
Finally we have stock of our new range of extra-wide double-sided paddle strops and
also our range of hanging strops. We’re offering our ‘stock’ strops in a choice
of three woods - Ash, Oak and Sycamore - and covered with finest burnished red latigo
leather. These strops are completely hand-made in the UK by an expert craftsman and
are only available here at the Invisible Edge.
But there’s more! The real idea behind this range is our bespoke service, aiming
to give our customers exactly what they want. So - if you want a paddle strop with
a 15” bed, covered to one side with cowhide and the other latigo, made from finest
mahogany with silver fittings - can do!
That’s what the enquiry form further down the page is for. Just fill it in, using
the drop-down boxes to choose your customised sizes or materials, and we’ll get back
to you with a cost! Lead time for these bespoke strops is about ten to fifteen working
days - but then the very best is always worth waiting for! Please note - all leathers
and woods are offered subject to availability.
A general photo of our ‘standard’ stock double-sided strop. Hand-turned from a single
wood billet in either Ash, Oak or Sycamore, with hand-burnished red latigo leather
beds that are individually fitted to each strop for the best match possible. Hand-turned,
hand-sawn, hand-finished - hand-made, in fact!
Overall length 17” (43 cm.), Leather bed length 11” x 3” (30 x 7.6 cm.), Overall
thickness 1” (2.5 cm.) leather thickness 1/8” (3 mm.). Hanging loop - stainless steel.
Please note that due to the individual nature of these strops, all sizes are approximate
though very close to those given, and also wood graining and shading may vary from
piece to piece - but that is what individuality is about - every strop is truly unique!
A thumb-grip is provided for better control when stropping - simple but effective.

with the main body - but they can of course be of any wood you like - or bone - you
choose!
The slotting of the main bed reduces weight whilst giving the necessary ‘spring’
to the bed whilst stropping.
We are confident that you can’t buy better strops ‘off the shelf’ than those you
see above . And yet - in this world of mass production it’s sometimes good to have
something that is truly unique and special to you alone. That’s where our bespoke

get back to you with a cost and lead time. And don’t worry - you are under NO obligation
at all to proceed at that stage - or any other. All we say is that quotes are good
for a month so, if you’re planning well ahead, it’s worth getting a re-quote prior
to placing an order.

Now available, our range of hanging strops includes the ‘stock’ items seen below.
As with the paddle strops, we have included a form at the foot of the page for those
of you wishing to take advantage of our bespoke service - fully customised to your
requirements. Strops shown are are all in either 9 - 11 oz. Red Latigo leather (average
4 mm thickness) or the new multi-tanned ‘Superleather’. This leather is unique to
The Invisible Edge and, in our opinion, is the very best money can buy. Strops are
also available to order in standard fine cowhide.
Please note: As leather is a natural product, thickness and colour may vary slightly.
Also, uniformity of surface cannot be absolutely guaranteed. Strops improve with
use and we are 100% confident in these products - the photos simply don’t do them
justice!

A general shot of our ‘stock’ Latigo hanging strop - specifications are as follows:
Overall length: 27”/68 cm. Usable leather bed length: 18/46 cm.”. Leather width::
3/7.6 cm”. Leather is 9-11 oz Latigo, average 4mm thick. Hanging fixtures: stainless
steel. Handle: single-billet hand-turned and -finished wood as specified with the
strop in question.
Fixtures detail Heavy-duty stainless steel wall anchor with stainless steel snap-shut
hanging eye, mounted on stainless steel rod. Secured by leather foldover mount with
nickel-plated brass double-cap rivets. Built to last! Again, all tooling is done
entirely by hand.
We’re very pleased to say that all our newly-made strops will now bear our name,
stamped permanently into the leather as shown above. As this is very close to the
top fixing of the strop it won’t interfere in any way with the stropping action -
and you will always know you have the ‘real thing’!
The above strops are all one-off pieces. They will be replaced as sold but remember
that you can always order your custom strop to suit your own requirements. Simply
fill in the form below and we will get back to you with a price. Usual lead time
for bespoke strops is 4 - 5 weeks - good things can’t be rushed! - and all materials
are subject to availability. Any special work - silver mounts, inlay etc. - will

And here’s an overall shot of our new ‘superleather’ multi-tanned cowhide strop!
This leather is tanned and processed by a unique method, giving superb ‘draw’ and
a great working surface. The back is napped and ideal for using with strop paste,
making this a very versatile item. The 20” bed length uses all the available length
of leather and is fixed to the handle by slotting and pinning with cocobolo pins
as shown above. The ultimate razor strop? Probably! Specifications are as the Latigo
strop except bed length 20”, leather is ‘superleather’ special multitanned and overall
length is approx 29”.
