PLEASE NOTE -

 

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

This is a 'One of a kind' razor. We hope to feature more of these in the future as blades become available so keep watching!

 

One of a kind pieces are re-scaled razors, usually quite old wedge blades though they can be hollow grinds also. The difference between these and 'ordinary' rescaled razors that use 'stock' scales is that the scales for our 'One of a kind' razors are all individually hand-made for that particular razor in a variety of materials.

 

We also do offer a custom rescaling service, especially for large wedge blades. Prices vary according to work undertaken and materials used so do drop us a line as a first point of contact.

 

Specs for this razor are as follows:

 

Blade: Joseph Elliott, Sheffield. Thought to be around 1860 – 1880. 6/8 depth with a dreadnought point and very pronounced Sheffield notch. Fully swept with an almost full-wedge grind. The front of the blade is elaborately relief-etched with the words 'Fine India Steel'. Though now a little faint it is perfectly legible but very difficult to photograph - sorry!

 

Tang: Lettered 'Joseph Elliott Fine India Steel' together with the Elliott 'mirrored – C's' trade mark.

 

Scales: Figured boxwood, custom-made for this razor. Pink Ivory wood spacer. The graining on the wood is unique and every bit as nice as the photos! Two 'microbolt' pins. The blade sits very well in the scales and there is of course no fouling on closure.

 

Summary: A very usable piece that would grace any 'rotation' or make a great 'Sunday' razor – or of course a superb gift.
