PLEASE NOTE -

 

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

This straight razor was made by Needham, Veall and Tyzack of Sheffield England under the famous ‘Taylors Eye-Witness’ brand, probably around 1920 - 1930. Specifications are as follows –

 

The blade is a 6/8 round point, fully hollow ground. It is in excellent general condition with just a little suprficial pitting near the spine on the pile side. The edge is very good and ‘rings’ well.

 

The tang is deeply jimped above and below for grip. It is struck to the front side with the words ‘Taylor Sheffield England’ and the ‘eye-witness’ logo.

 

The scales are of black plastic with white spacer and may noit be the originals, though they are a good fit and blade action is fine. They are also in excellent and almost unmarked condition.

 

The razor will be supplied shave-ready in a new Invisible Edge black leather razor wallet.

 

Taylors Eye-Witness is a world-famous brand, still very much alive today though now production is centred around kitchen knives. Every Eye-Witness razor I have ever seen has been of top quality and this one is no exception. A great first razor.
