PLEASE NOTE -

 

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

This straight razor was made In Germany for the New York form of M. Jung, sometime between 1911 – 1923. Details are as follows –

 

The blade is a 5/8 square point with rounded nose, fully hollow ground to about Henckel scale 10. Hone wear is minimal and the blade is free from pitting, showing only minor patination. The edge is some 2.75” long and wil be supplied shave-ready.

 

The tang is ‘blued’ (although the colour is actually black!) and this extends along the spine though some is now worn away here to the bright steel. It is struck to the front with the words ‘M. Jung New York M.I. (made in) Germany’. The reverse bears the marks ‘No. 80, “Reg. U.S. Pat. Off”’.

 

The scales are of blonde celluloid with black scale spacer. Two pins are used and these are good and tight, giving excellent action.

 

The razor will be supplied shave-ready in a new black plastic razor box.

 

A competent-looking basic razor from this New York firm who were in business C. 1911 – 1923 latterly at Church Street New York City, their main business was in razors, many of which were imported from Germany as this one was.
