PLEASE NOTE -

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

This straight razor is by Wapienica and is of Polish origin. Exact year is unknown but likely around 1970’s according to suppliers. Specs are as follows -

Blade: 5/8+ oblique point, narrowing a little at the tang, ground to about Henckel scale 3 - near full wedge. The only hone wear is my own work. The blade is mirror-polished as would be expected from new. It is undecorated to either side. The edge measures just under 2.75" from point to heel and is in excellent shape.

Please note that this razor is supplied SHAVE-READY for immediate use.

Tang: Jimps (serrations) to bottom of tang on some, others are smooth. Some are marked to one side with a triangular logo containing the letters 'SFK’ as shown below, some are not - all are Wapienicas, however.

Scales: Stainless steel with squared edge and stainless steel spacer. Two steel pins. Pins are of course good and blade is tight with no scale fouling on closure.

Box: Original Wapienica box or new plain black razor box (depending on individual razor).

These razors are ‘NOS’ (new old-stock), meaning that though they were made years ago they are unused. I have read that they were originally intended for Soviet hospitals but I can’t be sure of this. What is certain is that they hold a very good edge and, due to their low cost, make a great entry-level razor for someone new to the art or for an existing user who wants to try out a wedge-type razor. Easily cleaned and - to my mind anyway -  a very good-looking razor. Please do NOT confuse these with other cheap ‘new’ razors - the Wapienica is in a different league entirely and gives an excellent shave (I know, I have one in my ‘stable’). I recommend them heartily.
