PLEASE NOTE -

 

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

This straight razor was made by Dovo of Solingen Germany within the last couple of years. Specifications are as follows –

 

The blade is a 6/8 shoulderless round point with decorated blade, the gold cartouche saying ‘Bismarck best German hollow ground’ the spine is also gilded and the blade in as-new and unmarked condition.

 

The tang is fully gilded and is struck to the front with the word ‘Bismarck’ and the number ‘2’. The other side is struck ‘Solingen Germany’.

 

The scales are of black celluloid with a faux mother of pearl insert to the front scale, fancy strapping and the word ‘Solingen’ in brass. They are unmarked and as-new.

 

The razor will be supplied shave-ready in its original card ‘Bismarck’ box as shown.

 

An opportunity to acquire this razor in its now-discontinued black celluloid scales – there can’t be many about in this condition!
