PLEASE NOTE -

This razor is shave-ready and is, therefore, literally RAZOR-SHARP. This means that the edge will cut at a touch. IT IS NOT A TOY.  Although perfectly suitable for inclusion in a collection, it is primarily intended to be used for the purpose it was made - facial shaving. This razor has been honed and stropped by myself to this stage and I must again stress that, if you do not know how to handle this type of razor, it should be treated with the respect shown to any very sharp knife or instrument. If, of course, you are familiar with straight razor shaving then I do hope you will appreciate this piece.

Don’t forget our honing service - our new website with all our service rates included, making it easy for you to use - now also includes our re-pinning repair service for straight razors!

This straight razor is  by L. Gardet, Paris France. Exact year is unknown but most likely between about  1930 – 1940. Specs are as follows -

Blade: 4/8 round  point, hollow ground to about Henckel scale 6. Twin blade stabilisers. Evident  hone wear that does include recent work. The blade is well polished with little sign of age beyond very light surface patination. It is etched with the words 'Electro Levrette' (literally, 'electro greyhound bitch' – though I do think it probably means something like 'lightning fast' colloquially!). The edge measures just over 2.75" from point to heel and is in great shape.

Please note that this razor is supplied SHAVE-READY for immediate use.

Tang: Jimps (serrations) to underside of tang, the top is smooth. Marked to one side with the words 'L. Gardet, Paris' and to the other with the number '665'.

Scales: Black celluloid with bevelled edge and in excellent condition. Two pins with white scale spacer. Pins are good and blade is tight with no scale fouling on closure.

Box: Original box in good condition.

A well-balanced and workmanlike razor, entirely capable of full-face shaving despite its narrower blade width. In excellent overall condition, would make a good entry into straight razor usage.
