These soaps are handmade just one batch at a time by Phoenix and Beau, a family company based in Hitchin Hertfordshire. This Spitfire soap has a moderately bold scent of juniper blended that with the freshness of bergamot, the woodiness of cedarwood, all laid on to a base scent of leather and rich tobacco. The scent was created by Kerry from Phoenix and Beau as a reminder of his grandfather, an avid pipe smoker who left an almost tangible air of leather and tobacco around him wherever he went. So if you are looking for a traditional scent which is slightly different from others on the market then this wonderful shaving soap is just for you.
Phoenix and Beau recommend adding warm water (equivalent to say 4 to 5 tablespoons) to the top of the soap before use – a process called ” blooming “. Let the water sit on the soap whilst you have a bath or shower. At the same time place your brush in warm water to allow the hair to swell and absorb more water. When you are ready to start your shave remove the blooming water from the top of the soap. You can use this water to wet your face, adding the wonderful scent to it at the same time. Then using fairly brisk circular movements with your brush build up a lather in the soap dish. This shouldn’t take long, 10 to 15 seconds is usually all you need to build up a thick fragrant lather on your brush. Apply the lather to your face, again using a circular motion. This not only exfoliates the skin but lifts the beard hair thereby helping you to get a closer shave.
