New product

This Tsurayuki-type razor comes from the master smith Yoshitaka Yamada of Kyoto, under the 'Kanetaka' brand name. Although perhaps not quite as revered in Japan as Iwasaki, these razors are by no means second-rate. Again they are forged by a master smith under the approval of the surayuki works and are very fine shaving instruments.

More info

This Tsurayuki-type razor comes from the master smith Yoshitaka Yamada of Kyoto, under the 'Kanetaka' brand name. Although perhaps not quite as revered in Japan as Iwasaki, these razors are by no means second-rate. Again they are forged by a master smith under the approval of the surayuki works and are very fine shaving instruments. They are available as the regular 'Ichogake' size at present edge length/blade depth approximately 43mm /20 mm and are all fitted with a blue Tosuke rubberised handle grip, making them easier to handle than the Iwasaki. These razors are manufactured using a combination of softer (Jigane) and harder (Hagane) steels, with the harder steel forming the edge. With this model the harder steel is "White-2" carbon steel giving HRC hardness of between 58 and 60. Also available with "Blue-2" having a hardness of 60+ HRC. This hardness in practice makes little difference to the shave itself, the main practical difference is in the ease of maintenance "White-2" will take an edge more easily but "Blue-2" should retain its edge longer. Overall length of the razor is some 150 mm and they are supplied boxed as shown, ready for use, as are all our razors. If anything, the asymmetrical profile of the blade is even more pronounced than on the Iwasaki. Forged in the best tradition of the Japanese smiths, every razor is hand-finished to a very high level of quality. We're certain that, given their pedigree as an offshoot of the famous Tsurayuki works, these razors will perform to the highest expectations. We're really pleased to be stocking these razors as they aren't too common (though a bit easier to obtain than the Iwasaki!).
