Description
This 5/8 Barbarossa Shavette straight razor features a short blade of approximately 52 mm length. This version has a carbon steel satin finished full hollowed blade which features the Barbarossa motif in black. The scales are a very attractive faux tortoiseshell bearing the Dovo Solingen mark, and the end of the scales are shaped to mirror the blade’s Spanish point.
According to Dovo, the word “shavette” is being used here in it’s true meaning of “small razor”, hence this razor has a fixed blade and does not have the interchangeable blades which you would normally associate with the word shavette. The short blade with its Spanish point is particularly suited to contouring and shaping beards.
“Barbarossa” means red beard in Italian and the razor seems to be named after Frederick I, known as Frederick Barbarossa, who was a 12th Century King of Germany and who became one of the most celebrated Holy Roman Emperors.
