Description
Filarmonica is a most sought after Spanish manufacturer of straight razors. This pre-owned Filarmonica 12 has peppermint green scales which are in excellent condition and the razor comes with its original box as shown.
The razor has a tang stamp bearing the words Filarmonica, Doble Temple, Jose Monserrat Pou together with a lyre and the number 12 indicating the model. The reverse side bears the words “Fabricacion Espanola Made in Spain”. It has jimping to the top and bottom of the tang, a square point and a plain spine.
The blade marking is evident but faded. There are a few spots of corrosion on the blade, and of particular note is some corrosion near the middle of the blade on its face which is shown in the images. This explains the price which is very considerably lower than the price for a Filarmonica in mint condition. Selling on behalf of a customer.
Filarmonica is a well known Spanish straight razor brand. The company was founded by Jose Monserrat Pou in Barcelona. It was active between 1915 and 1990. The first two generations of straight razors which were produced during the Jose Monserrat Pou period are especially valuable among collectors. Due to their quality steel, fine workmanship, comfortable shaves and being one of the few manufacturers out of Spain, Filarmonicas are still very popular with straight razor users today. Razors made bearing the lyre stamp on the tang and the “Doble Temple” blade marking indicate that the razor was made somewhere between 1967 and 1979.
