Description
This vintage Kayser Ellison & Co silver steel razor is of 5/8 size and in very good condition. It sports composite (almost certainly celluloid) scales in an attractive marble-like design with inlay. The blade has a round point and an interesting scallop effect spine design. There is jimping to the lower tang and to the edges of the upper tang.
The tang of this vintage razor bears the Ideal and snowman branding about which we have found little. The Ideal brand was used by J. Curley & Brother of New York but I’m not entirely sure that this is the correct manufacturer of this razor. The tang also bears the legend “Made from Kayser Ellison & Co’s Best Sheffield Silver Steel”. Kayser Eillison & Co were manufacturers and suppliers of high quality steel. They were based at the Carlisle Works, Carlisle Street, Sheffield, with a history dating back to 1825.
The razor will be supplied honed, stropped and shave ready.
