Description
This 5/8 square point razor is from W Clauberg of Solingen, Germany and dates, we think, to around the 1920s. The composite scales have finials at both ends while the blade is unmarked and has a satin finish and plain spine.
The scales are in very good condition, though the razor will not sit upright on the scales when closed. The blade is also in very good condition and has no spine wear to speak of, though it has a couple of spots of corrosion shown in the images. Overall it is a very nice example.
SHAVE READY – all our razors are individually prepared and supplied shave ready. For full details see our policy.
Wilhelm Clauberg AG, Waffen & Stahlwarenfabrik was founded in 1810 in Solingen, the legendary “City of Blades” in western Germany. They exported large numbers of blades to England and the U.S.A. during the mid 19th century. They also sold swords and blades to the Union and Confederacy during the US Civil War. By 1887 however they had ceased weapon production, and were mainly making razors and steelware. The company was acquired by Anton Wingen in the 1920s and we think the razor dates from around this time.
