This sought after Kamisori (Japanese razor) is the mid-sized Ichogake from the Iwasaki workshop in Sanjyo, Niigata, the centre of the steel industry in Japan. We have previously been asked about having the handle on these razors wrapped and so we have had a rattan wrap added to a couple of the razors we have in stock.
The “Sanjyo Seisakujo” was established by Mr Shegeyoschi Iwasaki and his father Kousuke Iwasaki after the Second World War. Production has since been handed over to Mr Mizuochi who continues the tradition started by Mr Iwasaki’s father. His razors are highly sought after and are rather difficult to come by. We waited almost two years for this stock and we don’t have many so buy them while you can. Made from Swedish Sandvik steel laminated to a softer jigane low carbon steel. Razor comes in a wooden box (Paulownia wood) as shown.
The blade length is 50mm and the overall length is approx 165mm.
This fascinating video gives an insight to the manufacturing process:
SHAVE READY – all our razors are individually prepared and supplied shave ready. However in reality, given the condition in which they come from the workshop I rarely need to touch them. For full details see our policy.
