This 5/8 Le Grelot Medaille d’Or Snakewood straight razor has been hand made using traditional methods which date back to 1910. Le Grelot is a trade mark with much history. It is now owned by Thiers Issard. In 1924 Pierre and Louis Thiers exhibited their razors in Algiers and were awarded a gold medal for excellence. The Medaille D’or mark celebrated this achievement. This particular razor has a satin finish to both sides of the blade which bears the Le Grelot Medaille D’Or mark. The scales are made from snakewood which as its name suggests has a distinctive mottled scale like pattern. It gives this particular razor a uniquely interesting look.
Unusually for TI this 5/8 Le Grelot Medaille d’Or Snakewood razor has a half hollowed grind, meaning the blade is slightly stiffer. The razor is therefore a perfect choice for beginners and those with a more wiry or coarse beard growth. It is stylishly presented in a retro cardboard box.
Slight Second – this razor has a small group of pock marks on the reverse side of the blade which I think are from the forging process. These are shown in one of the images, all of which are of the actual razor for sale. The price reduction is as compared to our normal price for this model of razor.
SHAVE READY – all our razors are individually prepared and supplied shave ready. For full details see our policy.
