This is a superb vintage seven day set of ivory clad 5/8 razors in a crocodile/alligator skin box from the early part of the 20th Century, retailed by WG Whiting based at 6 Market Street, Royal Exchange, Manchester, England.

This set of seven, ivory clad 5/8 razors have decorated spines, each marked with a day of the week. The blade marking is "Royal Exchange, Special Hollow Ground", while the tang of each bears the marking "W. G. Whiting, Royal Exchange, Manchester".

Each razor has jimping to the lower and upper tang. There is no spine wear except that which comes from the time of manufacture.

The condition of the razors overall is very good except for the razor marked Monday which has a piece of the scale borken off on one side and a crack near the spacer pin on the other. Three of the razors have a small amount of historical corrosion to the tang.

The spine marking and blade marking on each is very clear. The tang marking is slightly faded on a couple of the razors, very clear on others.

All razors are shown in the photographs.

The box is a thing of beauty in itself and clearly the original for these razors as it is also marked with the Whiting logo. It is made from crocodile or alligator skin and is in fantastic condition for its age. The working lock retains its original key. The top inner is of silk, while the bottom inner is lined with velvet. The hinge on these boxes often break but this is still in fine working order.

All in all this set was clearly made for a gentleman of distinction and is a wonderful original set which it would be difficult to match.

The razors will be honed and stropped before sending out.

WG Whiting was a high quality retailer of razors as well as optical equipment and other items for the gentlemen of Manchester.
