A pair of vintage Tennis straight razors from Solingen. These 4/8 razors are marked Saturday and Sunday on their respective spines. Still sporting their original scales.
These razors have white/cream coloured plastic scales. These are in good condition for their age save that the scales of the Sunday razor have a bend in them which means that a degree of care is necessary when closing the razor.
The blades bear the legend "Extra Hollow Ground" which is a little faded as the blades have been polished. There are signs of historical corrosion but minimal hone wear.
The razors have been honed and will be supplied shave ready. They will also be supplied with a leather Strop-It two razor wallet.
Tennis was a brand name taken over by Dovo of Solingen, in 1952. Dovo began its life in 1906 as a company established by Carl Dorp and Carl Arthur Voos. By 1939 the company was being run by Carl Dorp’s son, but dissatisfied with his son’s management he arranged to sell it to a Fritz Bracht, a straight razor grinder and sole owner of Fritz Bracht Cutlery Products in Wald near Solingen. When Carl Dorp died in 1944 Bracht purchased the last part of the company and by 1945 he became the sole proprietor. Tennis was a brand previously owned by Fritz Bracht’s company, but merged with that of Dovo in 1952. Until 1953, all Tennis razors bore the Fritz Bracht name. Razors made after 1956 were marked Dovo and as these razors have neither marking it seems likely that they date from this intervening period.
