Genco Tartan Vintage 5/8 Razor

£50.00

This 5/8 vintage razor is marked "Genco" and sports tartan celluloid scales. I would date it to the early 20th Century. The blade and scales are in very good condition and it has only minimal hone wear. The razor has been honed and stropped and is ready for use.

The "Genco" brand was used by the Geneva Cutlery Company in New York from 1902 to 1935, the managers of which were reputed to be the first to introduce the German method of manufacturing to America. By 1912 it was the largest manufacturer of razors in the U.S. In 1936 the razor division and the trade mark were sold to the very well known W. R. Case & Sons of Bradford Pennsylvania.

My only reservation here is that the name Genco on the tang is represented in a cursive script which is different to the other representations of the "Genco" brand name I have seen. Nevertheless it is an attractive and very useable lightweight razor which has taken a good edge and represents very good value.
