J. Nowill & Sons Krosskeys Vintage Razor

£35.00

The blade of this 11/16 vintage razor was made by John Nowill & Sons and the tang bears their Krosskeys mark. The scales have come from another razor as they bear the mark of the Crown & Sword works of Carl Friedrich Ern who made razors in Wald just outside Solingen. They show some damage around the pivot pin, presumably from when they were removed from their original blade. The blade on this razor shows signs of historical corrosion around the tang and near the point. The edge has honed up nicely though and I expect it to provide an excellent shave.

This is a very economical way to experience a vintage Sheffield razor. Honed and ready to shave.

John Nowill & Sons is a well known Sheffield based company which started making razors in 1700, moving to Scotland Street in the 1840's. They still exist today at the same premises making high quality hunting knives under the name J. Adams Ltd. In 1842 the first of John Nowill’s sons, William, joined the business after finishing his apprenticeship. His maker’s marks of ‘D*’ and ‘KROSSKEYS’, remain the marks of the company to this day, and both marks can be seen on this razor.
