Vintage 6/8 John Heiffor Sheffield Razor

£55.00

A vintage Sheffield blade from John Heiffor, this 6/8 razor has been re-scaled with new Dovo black plastic scales. The blade is a full hollow with jimping to the lower tang. The overall condition of the blade is good. There are some signs of historical corrosion, in particular there is a band of old corrosion on the reverse side of the blade just underneath the spine. The lower part of the blade is fine.

The razor will be honed and stropped and is sold shave ready. A cheap way to try a Sheffield steel blade.

John Heiffor was a perfumer and hairdresser who started making razors in the late 1830’s from premises in Workhouse Croft, later known as Paradise Street. When John died, in 1849 the business was taken over by his son Thomas Heiffor and moved to Paradise Square. In the 1850’s it was known for producing its famous “ Army” razors for one shilling and was listed in Whites Directory of Sheffield as Army razor manufacturers. Thomas Heiffor died in 1886, but the business continued until the 1950’s, although by that time it had moved to Watson Road. We think this blade is from around the 1920's.
