Description
This vintage Bailey Brantford razor is believed to date from the early part of the 20th Century. It is a light 4/8 razor with a square point and jimping to the lower tang. The scales are composite, believed to be Bakelite. Selling on behalf of a customer.
The tang is marked “Bailey Brantford Canada” while the blade marking is Brantford in gold wash within a scroll decorated with maple leaves. There is a bit of historical corrosion and I have tried to show the area near the point on the face of the blade. But overall the condition is good/very good.
Eli Bailey, a native of Sheffield, England, was one of the earliest cutlery makers in Canada. He established the Bailey Cutlery Company on the corner of Queen and Dalhousie Streets where the post office was later built. The company later purchased the old Wincey mills and relocated to the West Mill Street location in Holmedale.
