Description
This is a vintage 5/8 Gong Razor probably dating from the 1930’s. It has round point carbon steel blade bearing the GONG RAZOR branding alond with the words “Extra Hollow” and “German Ground”. The Gong Razor logo also appears on the tang. The reverse of the tang has the words”Wald Solingen, 2633 made in Germany”. This would suggest that the razor dates from between 1922, when ERN were based in Wald-Solingen and 1939, when they moved to Kanalstrasse in Solingen.
The hollow ground blade has a plain spine and jimping to the upper and lower tang. The scales are made of a black composite material, and may or may not be original.
The razor is good condition overall with just a few small areas of corrosion on the blade which can be seen on the photographs.

GONG was a trademark used by ERN, a well known German manufacturer, which was established by Carl Frederick Ern, in Solingen-Wald in 1873. Their most popular brand was the “Crown & Sword” mark. Vintage models are highly regarded for their robust construction and historical value.
