Description

We are selling this vintage KROPP 7 Day set on behalf of a customer. Each razor has a 4/8 unmarked carbon steel full hollow grind blade with a mirror finish and a round point. There is jimping to both the upper and lower tang. The front of the tang is marked “KROPP”, whilst the reverse bears the words “Made and ground in Sheffield Eng”.

The spines are marked with the days of the week though some are rather faded. Please look at the photographs for the condition of each razor. The blades of the razors are in excellent condition save that “Tuesday” has a few spots of corrosion on one side of the face of the blade. The tangs are in good condition but there is some evidence of some staining/corrosion near the pivot pin on all the razors to varying degrees. We believe the scales are made of bakelite and are all in good condition.

The razors are supplied in what I am sure is their original wooden box bearing an unmarked brass escutcheon plate. The inside of the box is lined with blue silk/satin in the lid marked with the KROPP logo in gold lettering and a blue velvet base with indents to secure each razor.

The outside of the box is in excellent condition. Inside there appears to be have been some damage to the recess which accepts the closing mechanism on the lid but the box still opens and closes without any problems.

The Kropp Manufacturing Company was a London firm that made razors for the World market. Some of their razors were made and ground in Sheffield, and some were made in Sheffield and ground in Hamburg. As printed on the reverse tang, these particular razors were made and ground in Sheffield, England. This suggests they were made after 1933 when with the help of chief grinder Charlie Myers they were exclusively made and ground in England. The factory was based in Althol Road, Meersbrook, Sheffield. In 1933, the company became C. Myers and Sons and continued manufacturing at 51 Athol Street where they remained operating until the 1960s. At this time there were only 3 razor manufacturers left in Sheffield; Cadman, Ragg and Myers who all worked together, with Ragg’s eventually taking them over.

Kropp made razors of the highest quality and today are still well known, respected and sought after for their high quality and great shaving ability.
