Description
This is a vintage 4/8 ERN Crown & Sword razor probably dating from the 1930’s. It has a round point carbon steel blade bearing the Crown and Sword branding along with the words “Extra Hollow Ground” and “Wald-Solingen”. The reverse of the tang is tamped ERN 1166 while the Crown and Sword logo appears on the front of the tang along with “Made in Germany”. This would suggest that the razor dates from between 1922, when ERN were based in Wald-Solingen and 1939, when they moved to Kanalstrasse in Solingen.
The extra hollow ground blade has a plain spine and jimping to the upper and lower tang. The scales look original and are of a black composite.
The razor is in really excellent condition. The scales bear a few scratches which you could polish out I am sure.

The Crown & Sword mark was the most popular branding used by ERN, a well known German manufacturer, which was established by Carl Frederick Ern, in Solingen-Wald in 1873. Vintage models are highly regarded for their robust construction and historical value.
